DIY: Terrarium

I was inspired by Pinterest and Martha Stuart to create a terrarium. Mine didn't come out as nice as hers, but they are still cute! When you need a little greenery around the house, but want it to be low maintenance - these are perfect! I can't keep a plant alive to save my own life! So I am a fan of these little suckers - I mean succulents.  You can buy the plants and dirt at Home Depot and the glasses and rocks from a craft store like Michael's or AC Moore. Make sure to put a few rocks on the bottom for water drainage. Then add the dirt, and decorate with more rocks on top. The aloe on the left eventually got so tall I had to move it to the tall glass vase on the right, and it still outgrew that. My advice for potting these... give them room to grow. Get a little dirty and have fun!

Sandy

A Very Crafty Easter

Easter is coming up this Sunday and I can't believe its already here. I remember contemplating going to Miami for Easter a long time ago and here we are already! Below are some images I found on Google for Easter ideas. I hope you can find some inspiration from these and make your Easter your own special day. I'll definitely try to color some eggs - adult style, and have a Spring Bouquet among all the food! Although this post is just Easter ideas... May you have a happy and blessed holiday weekend whether you celebrate Easter or Passover! XO, Sandy

Let's go to Brasil!

Go to the Macy's Flower Show in Herald Square to teleport to Brasil. The theme this year is the Gardens of Paradise. The Flower Show, which has traditionally been held inside the store, has moved to an outdoor tent in the intersection of Broadway Plaza. It is an over-sized greenhouse. The show this year is exotic, energetic, and bursting with color.  You walk through the native plants and flowers of the Amazon forest, cross a bridge, and end up in front of a hidden waterfall. But I enjoyed most was how the setup looked like someone's colorful house and garden in Brasil.  (I love the flower chandelier!) Come here and you'll feel like you're in Rio! And if you have time, go to the windows on the 34th street side and you'll see a Carnival celebration complete with sounds of the jungle.  This is on display now until April 7th, during store hours.  The lines aren't too long around noon and the price is free.  A free event in New York - such a rare find!

Brighten Your Day with Roses

I love fresh-cut flowers. There is simply no other substitute.  Waking up with a fresh bouquet makes me so happy.  These are actually long stem roses.  I wanted to display them differently rather than placing them in a tall vase.  I found this short fat jar laying around that is slightly bigger than a mason jar so I thought this was perfect. I chopped the stems off leaving the ones on the outer edge shorter and the ones in the center longer and cut them to a bulbous shape.  How beautiful is this display!  So elegant and effortless. If you want a more modern look, this is perfect rather than the traditional tall vase.  The roses in the back are pink and yellow, but I dried those out.
