Croton, New York

Warm Weather = Lobster Roll, to me. Croton was a tavern/bar that I jumped into for lunch. Reading the menu, I saw this Frangelico Lobster Roll that jumped out to me - fresh lobster salad with Frangelico liqueor served on a brioche hot dog bun. I've never heard of anything like this before so I had to try it! It was pretty good, although I will say it didn't blow me away. The lobster salad was good - not too much mayo, but the bread was too doughy. I think I just like huge jumbo lobster meat! :) However, what I will say about this place is that the sweet potato fries were super! But you can't really mess that up, right?

Baked by Melissa

I have to blog about a delicious dessert that I have at least once a week. Its right by my office, and my vendors always bring them in. Baked by Melissa is a cupcake shop that only makes mini, quarter-sized, cupcakes. Melissa's shop began because she hated her job as an assistant media planner, and her brother told her to bake cupcakes - mini-sized. And voila! These little babies were born. Now they're the new craze, getting press left and right and expanding locations. And the kicker... she's only 25! I wish I thought of this idea! Each cupcake ranges from 70-90 calories and I think that's a lot for something so tiny. But it only makes sense that they are probably made with a lot of butter because they're very moist (and delicious). My personal favorite is peanut butter and jelly on the top right! My second favorite is tie-dye, row 1, column 2, 2nd and 3rd one down. Try them all! But be careful, because they're like potato chips - once you have one, you can't stop! I have to force myself to stop at #3 :)

"If the shoe fits... Buy it in every color."

Hi guys! This weekend I did a little shoe shopping for summer. I'm so happy summer is around the corner!

The first one is my new resort shoe! It has gorgeous muti-colored coral stones, beads, and wrapped in gold chains. I see my coral pedicured feet in these walking on a white sand beach alongside crystal blue waters. (Hey a girl can day-dream). The second one I was really looking for a good neutral espadrille, but the intricate woven pattern of these heels caught my eye. They look so high fashion and remind me of Missoni. Plus, they make me 5'10" and my legs miles long. I see myself wearing these with anything, but really a white flowy dress. So happy *summer* is around the corner!

ONE DAY...

Good Night on this Sunday!

Happy Easter (or Passover) everyone!! I had such a longgggg day. I began the morning with a run around the track. Let me tell you something about me - I hate running. Its my least favorite thing to do, next to watching paint dry.  Yes, it's a goal of mine to run a marathon one day, and run a 10k soon... but its so painful for me. But I had to do it since I knew I was going to eat a huge feast - with a sexy 10 lb roast rib as the main event. Dinner was delicious, and I felt guilt-free to eat an extra piece of meat! :) After dinner, I went for a walk around my neighborhood to literally stop and smell the flowers. It is so beautiful in the Spring with all the cherry blossoms in bloom, even though my allergies are a pain. Right now, its super late and I'm watching the movie, "Before Sunrise" with Ethan Hawke, but I'm going to shut down prematurely and go to bed now. I'll be posting more of my Easter pictures soon. I hope everyone had a nice weekend and I'll see you guys tomorrow! Have a beautiful week! xoxo

Seafood and Meat Paella

On this particular Sunday, I wanted to a) have brunch and b) have a dinner party. I started by visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the morning. At noon, I had brunch and drinks at a nearby bar. Soon the mimosas turned into vodka sodas (typical) and before I knew it, I was drrruuunnnk!

I realized I had to get back into my neighborhood to go grocery shopping. I hadn't even decided what to make at this point yet, but ever since having Paella at a restaurant, I had been craving it. I think being drunk gave me liquid courage to even attempt what I thought was a complex recipe. But if I was in my right mind, I dont think I would've cooked it for the first time for a bunch of friends. Luckily it worked out and everyone loved it!

When my friends started to come over, I opened all the bottle stocked in my bar and the wine and liquor kept flowing. I'm not going to lie, I was drinking from noon to midnight (bad idea) and I was kind of drunk when I was cooking this. But honestly... this recipe is more intimating than it really is. So while I am not suggesting you get drunk before cooking this, I am saying don't be afraid to attempt it!

Total: 1 Hour
Prep: 30 minutes
Cook: 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon paprika
2 teaspoons dried oregano
salt and black pepper to taste
2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 2 inch pieces

3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 cups uncooked short-grain white rice
1 pinch saffron threads

1 bay leaf
1/2 bunch Italian flat leaf parsley, chopped
1 quart chicken stock
2 lemons, zested
1 Spanish onion, chopped
1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 pound chorizo sausage, casings removed and crumbled

1 pound Mussels cleaned
1 pound Clams, cleaned
1 pound Shrimp, peeled and deveined

INSTRUCTIONS

In a medium bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons olive oil, paprika, oregano, and salt and pepper. Stir in chicken pieces to coat. Cover, and refrigerate.

To make paella saffron rice - Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a paella pan or large skillet over medium heat. Stir in garlic, red pepper flakes, and rice. Cook, stirring, to coat rice with oil, about 3 minutes. Stir in saffron threads, bay leaf, parsley, chicken stock, peppers and lemon zest. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to medium low. Simmer 20 minutes. *If you want to take a shortcut at this step, you can buy a package of saffron rice and prepare per box instructions... I won't tell anyone!*

Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a separate skillet over medium heat. Fry up the garlic, onions and red peppers. Stir in marinated chicken; cook 5 minutes. Stir in the chorizo with the casing removed; cook 5 minutes.

After everything else is cooked, then you cook the seafood. Stir in shrimp, turning until both sides are pink. If you dont have room in your pan, you can use a separate one. Told you that you need a big pan! Lastly add in clams and mussels and cook until they open. Discard any shells that do not open.

Lastly, spread rice mixture onto a serving tray. Top with meat and seafood mixture and ENJOY!

For the appetizer, I made home-made chips and guacamole, which was all gone before I even took a photo! And some bread and dip.

A Very Crafty Easter

Easter is coming up this Sunday and I can't believe its already here. I remember contemplating going to Miami for Easter a long time ago and here we are already! Below are some images I found on Google for Easter ideas. I hope you can find some inspiration from these and make your Easter your own special day. I'll definitely try to color some eggs - adult style, and have a Spring Bouquet among all the food! Although this post is just Easter ideas... May you have a happy and blessed holiday weekend whether you celebrate Easter or Passover! XO, Sandy
